Removing dark spots on the face and body is extremely
challenging, so I don’t like to use the term “remove”, but substitute it for
“treat” or “diminish”. Hyperpigmentation is not an easy issue to treat, and it
may take years to accumulate, so there is no easy fix for this issue. The best
time to start a hyperpigmentation treatment is always in the fall or winter,
because you need to avoid the sun when performing peels or deep exfoliation. Knowledgeable and experienced skin care professionals don’t like using the ingredient hydroquinone, because it is highly habit-forming,
and the hyperpigmentation comes back after the patient stops using the
products. The safest bet is using products based on kojic acid, tyrostat, andalpha-arbutin over a 28-day cycle. Usually even the most stubborn melasma and
sun spots fade after this intensive course.
